A term derived from the shape of the yield curve in which the percentage change in medium-term bonds does not correlate with the percentage in short and long-term bonds which results in a butterfly shaped curve. A positive shift occurs when the short and long term yields rise faster than medium term yields resulting in higher bond prices.
