A reserve of funds earmarked for paying claims that are anticipated in relation to individual insurance policies that are currently in default (i.e. the insured is no longer paying the premium) or expected to default. Estimates regarding claims incurred but not yet reported may be included in calculating the appropriate amount to set aside in a case base reserve.
