The decline in the overall value of the stock market that occurs when major stock market indexes have a large price drop. A market swoon could be the result of negative sentiment of investors who are growing nervous or becoming fearful about future economic events. When this occurs, these nervous investors typically will cease trading activity or even liquidate their positions.
