SDR. A measure of a country's reserve assets in the international monetary system. SDRs were created by the International Monetary Fund in 1969, originally to be used as a replacement for gold and silver. Today they are commonly used for a number of accounting purposes. The value of an SDR is determined by the exchange rate of the currencies contained in the SDR. also called paper gold.
